Hyundai has been aggressive in pursuing their electronic future, creating the Ioniq line of all-electric vehicles. Starting with the Ioniq 5 compact SUV and Ioniq 6 sedan, it quickly made an impact. Now, the introduction of the 2026 Ioniq 9 brings a three-row SUV to the segment, helping to move seven passengers more efficiently than ever before.
A single powertrain under the hood of the 2026 Ioniq 9 is built around a 110.3-kWh battery with quick-charge capabilities. There are three different variations, which trade off power for range. The base Long Range RWD (rear-wheel drive) version comes with a 215-horsepower motor and is expected to provide a range of 335 miles with a full charge. It’s also the slowest, with Hyundai expecting a 0-60 mph time of 8.4 seconds – the Long Range AWD cuts it to 6.2 seconds thanks to an additional front motor that ups the system output to 303 horsepower and provides all-wheel drive. Driving range drops to roughly 320 miles on this trim. At the top of the range, the Performance AWD is expected to get right around 300 miles of range; however, the more powerful motors combine for 422 horsepower and puts the acceleration to 60 mph at 4.9 seconds. The fast-charge system is expected to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in only 24 minutes.
From the outside, the 2026 Ioniq 9 offers a rounded profile, with the smooth front fascia foregoing a traditional grille. It curves up and over to the hood, while the roofline tapers towards the rear. This roof is an uninterrupted panoramic roof that stretches over all the seats in the cabin. Wheels range from base 19-inch versions on the base models to 21-inch models on the Performance model.
Inside, the cabin isn’t just spacious, but also offers a sense of style. The second row offers plenty of room for passengers, including 41 inches of legroom, although the 32 inches in the third row limits it to mainly children and smaller teenagers. Behind the third row, 21.9 cubic feet of cargo space is adequate for daily work, hauling sporting goods and groceries. Dropping the third row open up 46.7 cubic feet of cargo space, plenty for larger errands like lawn work or picking up furniture.
A pair of 12.3-inch screens are on the console – a gauge cluster, and a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration standard. The screen controls the standard 8-speaker audio system, while a premium 14-speaker Bose audio system is available. Nine USB-C charging ports are located across the three rows, while there is also wireless charging for Qi-compatible devices.
The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 features Hyundai’s latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) aimed at improving safety by preventing accidents and easing driving tasks. These systems include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, Safe Exit Assist, Rear Occupant Alert, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Blind-Spot View Monitor, High Beam Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Parking Distance Warning and more.
Hyundai has been closed-lipped when it comes to the debut trims of the 2026 Ioniq 9. However, it’s expected that it will feature only three trim levels to start off the model’s life – a Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, a Long Range All-Wheel Drive, and a Performance All-Wheel Drive trim. It’s expected that these will mainly differ in powertrain, although there are likely to be different interior trims and exterior colors available on separate trims.
